Soroptimist International (SI) works to achieve economic empowerment for all women and girls - one of its five strategic goals.

SI has Special List Status with the International Labour Organisation in Geneva and is active at the International Labour Conference in its capacity as a well-respected international NGO. SI is also an active partner in the Global Coalition of Social Justice – an ILO-led initiative – becoming one of the first civil society partners of the Coalition in December 2023.

Soroptimist International has Representatives to the United Nations (UN) that work specifically on social development issues including equal pay for work of equal value, at the UN in New York and beyond. Economic empowerment and equal pay are issues that SI consistently advocates for at the international level, including in statements to the UN Commission on Social Development.

SI continues to develop and revise Position Papers on many issues, including on Economic Empowerment, Social Protection Systems, and Poverty, which are all available here.

In addition to its work at the international level, SI delivers impactful projects at the grassroots level on economic empowerment in countries including Morocco and Italy.

EPIC is an excellent initiative that will enable Soroptimist International to develop new connections and collaborate directly with likeminded organisations to strengthen our advocacy efforts on achieving equal pay for work of equal value. Given that space for NGOs is generally shrinking in international decision-making, it is more important than ever to bolster civil society solidarity and collaborate in coalitions and movements like this one. This new platform is a welcomed opportunity for Soroptimist International to drive greater action towards achieving economic empowerment for all women and girls.
